...
I will assume you have:
machine A - connected to printer
machine B - no printer
both machines on 1 network

On machine A: (with printer)
go to control panel -> printers & faxes -> right click on the printer -> click on "properties" -> click "sharing" tab -> choose "share this printer" -> apply changes
the printer should now appear with a hand on the icon - indicating it is shared

On machine B:
(no printer)
go to control panel -> printers & faxes > right click in empty space -> click on "add printer" -> click "next" -> choose "browse for printer" -> select the printer in the next window -> on the next window, choose to set it as the default printer -> finally save the changes by clicking "finish".
you should now be able to print from machine B to the printer connected to machine A.

NOTE: If you have third party firewall software installed on either of the two machines, it must be set to trust the local network - in order for network sharing to work.

peringatan. kalau korang nak buat share printer nie kat hostel UMP, adalah dinasihatkan korang buat sedikit permission control. kalau tak orang lain dengan selambe jumpe & boleh sabotaj ko dengan print sesuka hati.

check if your firewall (or his) is blocking it. if you have norton internet security/zone alarm/etc.. firewall (or if your friend does) it will by default block the computers (and their connected printers) from being seen. if you let me know the firewall application you may be using, I can send you a site that shows how to trust the local network.

KIS has a firewall built into it. I don't know how to configure that off hand, but you need to open the Kaspersky Internet Security Control Panel Application, locate the Firewall settings section, there should be one of the following (not sure the organization on that software):

A) Zones (Public, Local, Trusted) - add your local area network to either the Local or Trusted zone
B) Networks (list of networks you are connected to/have been connected to) - check the properties of your Local network (the one that has the printer) - set it to Local or Trusted Zone.
