Utilitarianism

Just thought that it'd be appropriate to cover this topic here

• Utilitarianism is the idea that the moral worth of an action is determined solely by its contribution to overall utility
  
• It is a form of consequentialism: the worth of an action is determined by its outcome.

Is there anyone who can explain this concept to me? I don't really understand it, it's a concept of ethics, right?

Utilitarianism is an act of doing something for the sake of its benefit purely... Utilitarianism disregards ethics, political correctness and stuff like that... A good example will be the BN govt removing Hudud. It may be 'politically incorrect' for some people and may not seem like a very nice thing to do but in the end it benefits ALL Malaysians. So I suppose you can say being a Utilitarian means you'd do something for the betterment of a population in general regardless how it may seem.

Disregards ethics? Means the ends justify the means?
