Yonex All England Open Super Series 2009 (3/3-8/3)

huhu..skali lagi Datuk Lee tumpas kpd En. Lin Dan....
19-21, 12-21

bleh nampak Datuk Lee tu mmg dah men ngan baik pd set pertama tu, tapi saya rase Lee mcam lepas tangan je 2 markah terakhir tu

set kedua, segalanya bermula ngan baik, tapi tiba2 je Datuk Lee tu mcam "giv up" je pd markah ke-12 , mungkin stress sngt kot, lps tu Lin Dan semakin meluaskan jurang markah, then lin Dan menanglah game tu....

Juara All England milik Lin Dan...

All England: Julia Wong springs surprise, Chong Wei in
Spoiler:
Friday, 06 March 2009

By : K.M. Boopathy

WORLD NO 1 Lee Chong Wei, as expected, advanced to the quarter-finals
of the All England but Julia Wong was the surprise package yesterday
when she toppled European champion Xu Huaiwen of Germany to claim a
place in the last eight in Birmingham last night.

Chong Wei didn't really have it his way as
the unheralded German Marc Zwiebler battled hard before allowing the
top seed to register a 21-18, 21-16 win in 37 minutes in a second round
match.
However, Chong Wei's chances of advancing to the semi-finals has turned
out to be an easier task after his potential quarter-final opponent
Sony Dwi Kuncoro of Indonesia conceded a walkover in the second round
to Ville Lang of Finland ddue to a back injury yesterday.
Lang, said national singles chief coach Rashid Sidek in a telephone
inteview from Birmingham, is not a threat and Chong Wei shouldn't face
any problems securing his place in tomorrow's semi-finals.
"It is always difficult playing against unknown players but Lang should
not be a problem for Chong Wei. The semi-final spot is as good as his,"
said Rashid.
"Sony would be tough but Chong Wei could have still won if the Indonesian had made the last eight.

"However, I'm quite happy that Julia had taken great strides in
reaching the quarters and she must utilise the golden opportunity and
go one step further."
Julia fought all the way in her 23-21, 15-21, 21-16 win over Huaiwen in
a 63-minute encounter and her reward is a last eight showdown against
Denmark's Nanna Brosolat Jensen, who shocked another seeded player Pi
Hongyan of France 21-18, 14-21, 21-19, whom the Malaysian is capable of
beating today.
Another Malaysian Lee Tsuen Seng, attached to KLRC Bhd, crashed out
after losing 21-11, 21-12 to Sho Sasaki of Japan last night.

In the men's doubles, Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong and Zakry
Latif-Fairuzizuan Tazari were in control as they checked into the
quarter-finals.
Kien Keat-Boon Heong edged compatriots Gan Teik Chai-Tan Bin Shen
21-18, 21-14 in the second round to set up a quarter-final clash
against Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen of Denmark today.
Zakry-Fairuz found themselves 12-18 down against another Denmark pair
Anders Kristiansen-Simon Mollyhus but recovered to lead 21-20, only to
receive a surprise when the Danish pair conceded a walkover at that
stage.
Mollyhus had twisted his ankle while retrieving a shot and with an
unexpected easy win after just 27 minutes, the Malaysians will now face
South Korea’s Han Sang Hoon-Hwang Ji Man, who beat Japan’s Kenichi
Hayakawa-Kenta Kazuno 21-15, 21-15, in the last eight today. National
doubles coach Rexy Mainaky said his charges have the opportunity to
seal a semi-final spot.
However, World No 1 Wong Pei Tty-Chin Eei Hui's run was snapped by
Chinese No 4 Pan Pan-Tian Qing who registered a 21-16, 21-9 in 33
minutes.
KLRC Bhd's Haw Chiou Hwee-Lim Pek Siah were bundled out after they lost
21-4, 21-13 by South Koreans Ha Jung Eun-Kim Min Jung in the second
round yesterday.

All England: Chong Wei storms into semis
Spoiler:
Saturday, 07 March 2009

By : K.M. Boopathy

WORLD No 1 Lee Chong Wei is the last Malaysian standing in the All
England after he stormed into the semi-finals as men's doubles Koo Kien
Keat-Tan Boon Heong and Zakry Latif-Fairuzizuan Tazari crashed out in
the quarter-finals in Birmingham last night.

Chong Wei duely justified his status as the top seed when he thrashed Ville Lang of Finland 21-9, 21-9 in just 26 minutes.
He will now play former Olympic champion Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia,
who defeated Denmark's Peter Gade Christensen 21-17, 21-18 in 46
minutes, in the semi-finals today.

His major rival Lin Dan of China also registered a convincing 21-13,
21-6 win over Joachim Persson of Denmark to set-up a semi-final
showdown against compatriot Chen Jin today.
Chin Jin, the defending champion, narrowly escaped defeat as he carved out a 14-21, 21-13, 21-19 win over Japan's Sho Sasaki.

National singles coach Misbun Sidek, in a telephone interview from
Birmingham, said Chong Wei will have to be at his best against Taufik
who is determined to win his maiden All England crown.
"The quarter-final victory is expected but as I've always said, Taufik
will be dangerous simply because he hasn't won the All England yet,"
said Misbun.
"Chong Wei has to be at his best as Taufik will try to take advantage of his position as the underdog."

Chong Wei's explosive performance didn't brush off on his men's doubles compatriots who lost tamely in the last eight.

Kien Keat-Boon Heong, the 2007 champions, were hardly in the match as
Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen of Denmark secured a comprehensive 21-7,
21-17 victory in 40 minutes.
The rusty Zakry Latif-Fairuzizuan Tazari also found no answer to the
power-play of South Koreans Han Sang Hoon-Hwang Ji Man who also notched
an easy 21-9, 22-20 win in 30 minutes.
Scratch pair Lee Yong Dae-Shin Baek Cheol, who won the German Open last
week, continued their march after beating Indonesia's Muhammad
Ahsan-Bona Septano 14-21, 21-13, 21-19 and will play Sang Hoon-Ji Man
in the last four.
Boe-Mogensen will take on Olympic silver medallists Fu Haifeng-Cai Yun
of China, who edged Lars Paaske-Jonas Rasmussen 21-17, 21-16, today.
In the women's singles, Malaysia's sole survivor Julia Wong was left to
regret her misfortune after losing to Nanna Brosolat Jensen of Denmark
21-16, 21-16 in the quarter-finals.

Lee reaches first All-England badminton final
Spoiler:
Sunday, 08 March 2009

Lee Chong Wei signalled his determination to atone for his defeat in
the Olympic final in Beijing six months ago with an impressive
performance in reaching the final of the All-England Open for the first
time.

The top-seeded Malaysian destroyed Taufik Hidayat, the former
Olympic and world champion from Indonesia 21-8, 21-13 in little more
than half an hour in a match in which the outcome was almost never in
doubt.

True, Hidayat looked a little slow after his superb but tiring
preformance in bringing down Peter Gade, the former world number one
from Denmark, the day before, and going to three games with England's
Andrew Smith the day before that.

But Lee was explosive in attack, resilient in defence, and
occasionally inspired as he contained the best shots that his
celebrated opponent could throw at him.

The first game was one way traffic, partly because Taufik's error
ratio was so high. The second saw Taufik play much better, and Lee's
standard improved by even more.

The highlight was a sensational rally at 13-12, when Taufik was well
in the match, but no matter how hard he tried to push for a winner with
smashes and attempted kills, Lee plunged around the court and got
everything back.

The Malaysian then played an express sequence of piston-like mid-court exchanges, and finished the point with a winning jab.

That took the momentum out of Taufik's partial recovery, and it was
not long before Lee was making rapid progress, often with smashes to
the body, which sometimes exposed the Indonesian as a little slow.

"Everyone wants to see a repeat of the Olympic final," said Lee
afterwards. "And I will do my best. If I do play him it will be a
difficult match."

Lin Dan was due to play Chen Jin, the defending All-England champion from China, in the other semi-final.

All-England: Chong Wei faces fiery Lin Dan in final today
Spoiler:
Sunday, 08 March 2009

By : K.M. Boopathy

IT was the much anticipated clash the badminton fraternity was waiting
for and true to form, World No 1 Lee Chong Wei and Olympic champion Lin
Dan of China will do battle to own the All England men's singles crown
in Birmingham today.

Chong Wei found his touch with a classy 21-8,
21-13 win over Indonesian rival Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia while Lin
Dan received a favour from his compatriot Chen Jin who conceded a
walkover due to injury in the semi-finals.
Lin Dan, despite being seeded second, will start as the favourite after
having beaten Chong Wei rather easily in their previous two meetings -
the Beijing Olympics and China Open finals last year - and will be
going all out to repeat the feat.
Chong Wei, on the other hand, must be ready to challenge his mighty rival who is in fiery form this week.

National singles coach Misbun Sidek, in a telephone interview from Birmingham, said Lin Dan holds the advantage in the final.

"It's all in the mind for Chong Wei. Lin Dan is the favourite but I
want to see a challenge from Chong Wei this time," said Misbun.
"It is going to be very good match as both Chong Wei and Lin Dan are
the top two players in the world and are at their best at the moment.
"The final will be all about tactics and strategies and how well Chong
Wei can counter Lin Dan as he did against Taufik (in the semis)."

Another gripping battle is expected to be witnessed in the women's
singles final as th battling Tine Rasmussen of Denmark will going all
out to deny China's rising star Wang Yihan today.

Yihan had swept her opposition away with ease and this includes a
comprehensive quarter-final win over two-time world champion and
compatriot Xie Xingfang.
Yihan also captured the German Open last week and another title is
within her grasp if Tine fails to recover from her energy-sapping
semi-final against another Chinese shuttler Jiang Yanjiao which the
Dane won 22-24 25-23 21-15 in 60 minutes.
It was a narrow escape for Tine and she will be relying on every ounce
of her experience to secure her second consecutive All England crown
today.
S-Final Results — Men’s Singles: Lee Chong Wei (Mas) bt Taufik
Hidayat (Ina) 21-8, 21-13; Lin Dan (Chn) bt Chen Jin (Chn) 21-12, 11-6
rtd.

Doubles: Lee Yong Dae-Shin Baek Cheol (Kor) bt Han Sang
Hoon-Hwang Ji Man (Kor) 21-17, 21-18; Fu Haifeng-Cai Yun (Chn) bt
Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen (Den) 23-21, 21-14.

Women’s Singles: Tine Rasmussen (Den) bt Jiang Yanjiao (Chn)
22-24, 25-23, 21-15; Wang Yihan (Chn) bt Nanna Brosolat Jensen (Den)
21-11, 21-7.

Doubles: Cheng Shu- Zhao Yunlei (Chn) bt Ha Jung Eun-Kim Min
Jung (Kor) 21-23, 21-15, 21-17; Zhang Yawen-Zhao Tingting (Chn) bt Du

HAFIZ Hashim achieved a much needed breakthrough in his career as he
advanced to the semi-finals of the India Open in Hyderabad yesterday.

<table width="200" align="right" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="3"> </table>
The unseeded Hafiz, whose commitment in

quarter-final encounter.

Hafiz's intentions were clear as he scored 11 points on the trot to win
the first game 21-18 after trailing 10-18 and maintained his momentum
until the deciding game to show that he is not ready be thrown out of
the national team.

Hafiz will meet Chen Long of China, who eliminated World No 1 Lee Chong Wei in the first round, in a semi-final clash today.

Kuan Beng Hong, who is in a similar predicament, took second seed
Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia to the wire before going down 21-17, 17-21,
21-19 in 61 minutes while back-up player Tan Chung Seang's campaign
also ended when he was beaten 13-21, 21-18, 21-9 by Tommy Sugiarto of

LEE Chong Wei was floored by food poisoning
in the India Open as he crashed out in the first round, going down to
Chen Long of China at Gouch Bouli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad
yesterday.

<table width="200" align="right" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="3"> </table>
The Malaysian World No 1 suffered a 7-21,
21-16, 21-18 loss to Chen Long, the 2007 world junior champion, in 50
minutes to pave the way for second seed Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia to
win the title.

Taufik edged Hong Kong's Hu Yun 18-21, 21-18, 21-19 to set up a third round meeting against Arvind Bhat of India today.

Chong Wei, despite the food poisoning, made a quick start to win the
first game 21-7 but fell 21-16 in the second. He tried hard battling
from 12-18 down to level the score in the third game but his opponent
closed the match by securing the next three points.

Chen Long moved into the third round after beating India's Guru Sai Datt 21-17, 21-16.
Chong Wei, in a
telephone interview from Hyderabad, said he and several other players
were down with stomach trouble after taking dinner outside their hotel
on Tuesday.

"We had refrained from eating outside the hotel but last (Tuesday)
night decided to order food from outside. It proved to be costly," said
Chong Wei.

"I took medication but I felt very weak during the match. I tried to recover in the third game but my legs felt too heavy.

"My aim playing here was to have a feel of the venue where the World
Championships will be held (on Aug 10-15) but unfortunately, it has
been cut short. I'm glad this didn't happen in a major event.

"Several of my teammates are also suffering the problem but I hope
their condition is not as bad as mine. I will return home as soon as
possible and rest before preparing for the Sudirman Cup in Guangzhou
(in May)."

However, several other players managed to advance to the third round yesterday.

Veteran Roslin Hashim toppled back-up player Liew Daren 22-20, 21-12 to
set up a third round clash against compatriot Lee Tsuen Seng today.

Tsuen Seng, attached to KLRC Bhd, also pulled through with a 21-16, 21-10 win over Abhimanyu Singh of India in the second round.

Hafiz Hashim struggled to a 21-11, 18-21, 21-14 win over Hong Kong'a
Wong Wing Ki and will next face a tough third round battle against Zhou
Wenlong of China.

Chan Kwong Beng upstaged Chong Wei Feng 21-15, 15-21, 21-19 to reach
the third round and will play Indonesia's Andre Kurniawan Tedjono
today.

KLRC's Sairul Amar Ayob beat T. Dinesh of India 21-15, 21-10 to set up
a third round meeting against Tommy Sugiarto while Kuan Beng Hong, who
beat another Indian Rohan Castelino 21-16, 21-8, will meet China's Qiu
Yanbo next.

Tan Chun Seang, who did well to beat Vietnam's Nguyen Tien Minh 21-15,
10-21, 21-18, plays Indian Anup Sridhar in the third round.

Spoiler:
Rashid to take action against back-up shuttlers who flopped in ABC

Monday, 13 April 2009
By RAJES PAUL

Two immediate actions will be taken against the national elite back-up
shuttlers following their wishy-washy performances in the Asian
Badminton Championships (ABC), which ended in Suwon, South Korea,
yesterday.

National chief coach Rashid Sidek will cut down on the number of
international tournaments for the four second liners — Tan Chun Seang,
Mohd Arif Abdul Latif, Chong Wei Feng and Liew Daren. He also wants to
make it compulsory for them to attend a weekly motivation class.

Rashid said that his frustration was at its height following the
elimination of all the four players in the first round of the ABC.

“I would not have been this upset if they had given fighting shows
in the ABC. Their level of commitment in a tournament is like a yo yo,”
he said.

“I push them hard in training. I give them moral support. But they
do not walk their talk. They say a lot of things, about their goals and
targets, but they are unable to achieve them.”

Rashid added that he would be selective of his players for
international competitions, especially for four consecutive tournaments
in June — the Philippines Open (June 2-7), Singapore Open (June 9-14),
Indonesia Open (June 16-21), Malaysia Gold Grand Prix (June 23-28).

“They can forget about going for all these tournaments in June. I
will discuss with the management and they will only be selected for one
or two tournaments,” said Rashid.

“It is no longer about exposure for this group of players. They have
to go out and win titles or live up to certain expectations. If they
cannot meet this, it is best that they leave the team.”

For now, only Chun Seang has been named as a reserve for the
Sudirman Cup world mixed team championships in Guangzhou from May
10-17.

Chun Seang was picked for scoring upset wins over seeded players
Nguyen Tine Minh of Vietnam and India’s Anup Sridhar en route to a
quarter-final appearance in the recent India Open.

Rashid said that he hoped that weekly motivation talk would also change the mind set of the under-performing players.

“Whether they like it or not, they have to attend the talk. I will
make arrangements with the NSI (National Sports Institute) to instil
confidence in them,” he said.

“I am pleased with their physical condition and in fact, I am not
too worried about their skills. But what is lacking is their
self-confidence.

“I have faith in these players and hopefully, they will be able to stand out in future tournaments.”

next tournament:

Vietnam International Challenge Ho Chi Minh City (21-26/04/2009)

Sudirman Cup world mixed team championships Guangzhou (10-17/05/2009)
