a codec does not necessarily mean it has to be another video player. It is simply a library file (.dll). As an example, in order to create an MP3 audio file, you must have an MP3 encoding library file (or in other words an mp3 codec). Not all codecs though are capable of both decoding and encoding. In fact, most that you download will be decoders only. Back to the story here... to create an MP3 file using something like audacity, it is necessary to have the correct codec installed. Since the ones that come with windows are decode only.. you have to get the encode library. The one you use with audacity is called LAME encoder, and the actual filename is lame_enc.dll, library files usually get placed into one of the following locations: c:/windows/system or c:/windows/system32. because it is not built into any application in specific, codecs can be used by virtually any decent media player application. this means creative media source 5, windows media player, quicktime, etc..

as far as video codecs go, there are a few things that need to be understood about them. there are many different video formats ranging from MP4, 3GP, 3G2, AVI, WMV, FLV, etc.. simply to say "Its an AVI file" does not tell you necessarily what media player will play it. In fact, you may find that no video player will play it without proper codecs installed. This is due to the fact that the video and audio are two separate entities CONTAINED within the AVI file. In fact, when saying it is AVI or WMV, you are simply referring to the container. Different containers are capable of using different video formats (such as MPEG) as well as different audio formats (such as AAC). You may find that you are trying to play a certain video file and you can hear audio but not see video, or the other way around. that is because you only have one part of the equation. in order to be able to get both the audio and both the video to play, you need to have both the audio and video codecs installed on your computer. If you install something like K-Lite codec pack on your computer after a fresh install, you are ensuring that you will be able to play 99% of all files you come across. Theres not really any totally 100% complete codec pack out there to be honest since theres always new developments in the media field, plus that AMR file you sent me Jo was unreadable on my computer even with a full set of K-Lite codecs (but my phone played it when I transfered it over).

some misconceptions are that DivX is a codec itself. that is not entirely true. DivX is a company that made an MPEG video codec, and their decoder software tries to sell you stuff. In reality you will be just fine with either XviD or FFdshow decoders. I use ffdshow personally (as i set this in my K-Lite settings).

Usually, you don't really fit other than DivX or XviD in an avi file, since that would miss the point of using avi as a container. But you can fit a H264 video in an avi container, I've tried it once before, but not very successful. Some encoder from a famous fansub good managed it, though.

Don't worry too much about codecs, since people who encode would be wise enough to use a codec that is accessible.

asl sebelum nie ak pkai GOM leh maen video....skrang nie ak maen video yg same x leh dah...

GOM ada built-in codec, so unless ko tk wat pape yg menyebabkan codec tu hilang, patut ok je.

Mungkin ko ada install benda yg telah meng-override-kn codec GOM, so tu dia tkleh play video tu.

Apa message yg kuar time ko nk play video tu?
