said a search and rescue operation was mounted by the police with the
cooperation of the Fire and Rescue and Civil Defence departments as
well as local residents. Mohd Jasmani said police received
information of the incident at noon on Saturday but immediate efforts
by the search and rescue team to get to the location were hampered by
strong currents. “However, we managed to locate them at the
fourth level of the waterfall and efforts to bring them down had to be
conducted very carefully to ensure that nobody got hurt as the place
was very slippery,” he told Bernama here on Sunday. Mohd Jasmani
said the exhausted campers were brought out safely from 8pm onwards and
were taken to the Gambang police station before being allowed to return
home with their families. Following the incident, police have
advised people wanting to go jungle trekking or mountain-climbing to
inform the police of their plans so that a search and rescue operation
can be carried out quickly and easily in case of anything untoward
