Privatisation of IJN

Post by rowanlim on Sun Dec 21, 2008 4:36 pm

Simple poll, recent issue, Sime Darby wants to privatise the IJN (Institut Jantung Negara/National Heart Institute). This has been met with negative public opinion & the DPM says that it'll be reconsidered.

What do you think? Should the IJN be privatised?

if this privatise action wil bring good development to IJN and

The National Heart Institute’s (IJN) fees will continue to be regulated by the Government even if it is privatised.

this was promised by government , i will agree!!

* normally privatisation will make a public organisation toward more professional and efficient in management!!

i cast a yes vote. i think it shud be privatised cuz i dun think sime darby and the government are capable of staving off the staggering amount of money they hav to fork out every year to prop up IJN and keep it afloat.

Oh no me & Caleb have opposing views on this. I voted no. Majority of the people can't afford heart treatment & I don't believe that the government can just "regulate" the prices. Sime Darby is a private company & private companies are PROFIT-ORIENTATED. It's the government duty to maintain the interest of the people & I don't think privatising is a good idea.

Plus if Sime Darby wants to help, they should open their own medical institute.

Oh wait, they already have the Sime Darby Medical Center in Subang Jaya. Why not improve that?

^mayb cuz pantai has got 9 others to worry bout whereas sime darby has got only 1 to worry bout?? ..how wud u expect pantai to step in and acquire ijn at a time when the economy is plunging into a recession?? capital investment is not sth to toy round with..

@rowanlim - i understand the need to provide affordable medical treatment for underprivileged ppl. but if U dun privatise, its going to be the same. cuz in the end, if the government cant afford to pay for its costs, then we, the ppl who happen to be taxpayers, wud hav to pay for the costs---> higher taxes?

wao really sime darby already got its own hospital?and why did he want IJN so much?maybe because sime drby medical staff has made a statistic that Malaysian bad habit of eating will leads toward heart attack in future,so if they grab these chance in privatise those IJN in the future they will grab those who eagerly want to save themselves

Sime Darby should have put their own expert on heart at their own hospital ler...dun take rakyat money please!

Re: Privatisation of IJN

@Caleb: Think of it this way: taxes --> income to gov --> money to help country. Higher taxes? Fine, but then the gov better well cut the wasteful spending on stupid stuff like the Angkasawan *yeah I said it* & the ridiculous courses they have for government servants; my aunt works there, I know the crap they waste at events like that...

We can't put this in the hands of a PRIVATE company. On another wavelength, what would the shareholders think? What does Sime Darby want? To do charity? I doubt shareholders will like that...To make money? That's profit-oriented, that's unacceptable for majority of Malaysians, middle-class & below.

@Sengal: I agree. My point exactly. If they want to provide good medical care, go improve THEIR OWN medical center. You want to make sure you give good heart care facilities? Build up your effing center, quit sucking on public interest.

^higher taxes is y U were against john mccain rowanlim. think 'bout that!!! they cud tax us anywhere from our college tuition fees to our college loan interest rates being raised. if U think that the space program is wasteful, look around U especially when ur back at ump. all the programs and activities that the HEP and administration ever approved of were all rubbish too. now where do U think they got the money from? and im pretty sure not all of us can afford to be admitted to ijn either even though its owned and regulated by the government at the time being. ijn still doesnt charge U like a normal general hospital wud. its still the same all in all.
